I have had a fascination with photography over many years, but it wasn’t until I retired from a long career in the Metropolitan Police that I was finally able to concentrate on developing my skills.
I became aware of the Street Photography genre a couple of years ago and liked the idea of re-visiting the streets of London, but this time with a camera. I had read numerous magazine articles on the subject and was becoming quite hooked – but I lacked any distinctive style.
At about the time I was beginning to study and absorb the work of famous street photographers I saw a recommendation for the IOP course. I reckoned that this would give me the encouragement and motivation to move me in the right direction and indeed it did.
I think it really helped to have a serious look at the different styles and techniques of the many established street photographers and I now find that I can approach street photography in a far more creative way.
The distinction has boosted my confidence. I am confident that I can now continue to develop my photography and am looking forward to seeing where it takes me.
