My parents gave me a Pentax MX camera for my 15th birthday and photography had me. School had a camera club and my brother and I built our own darkroom. The transition to digital was an easy one for me as my work is all about technology.
I never travel without a camera and I particularly love seeking out wildlife and the scenery that it usually lives in, and also the details and textures in the fabric of those surroundings. I also love to capture events, anything from live music and sport to cultural and historical displays.
Before enrolling on the IOP Professional Diploma in Photography, I’d been taking photographs for 40 years. My motivation was to see if I could improve my photography and develop consistency and confidence in what I could achieve with a camera. I hoped to learn how to add something extra to my images. The course units, instruction, ideas, assignments, feedback plus the support, guidance and advice from the tutors and the interactions with other students have, overall, completely underpinned my photography and how I’ll approach it and enjoy it going forward as I continue to develop and enjoy this fascinating hobby.
I still have the Pentax!
