Ephemeral Beauty – The Transience of Nature
Concept: Nature’s fleeting moments hold a unique beauty – the blooming of a flower, a passing cloud’s dance with sunlight, the delicate balance of a dewdrop. This competition invites you to capture these transient scenes that remind us of the impermanence and enchanting allure of the natural world. Freeze these fleeting moments in time through your lens and share their magic.
Examples:
A raindrop poised on a petal, reflecting the surrounding world.
A butterfly in mid-flight, its delicate wings casting intricate shadows.
Sunlight filtering through a forest canopy, creating a whimsical play of light and shadow.
A cascading waterfall frozen in a graceful arc.
The moment a wave crashes against the shore, capturing its energy and movement.
Judging Criteria: Entries will be evaluated based on the following criteria:
Capture of Ephemeral Moments: The ability to freeze fleeting moments and showcase their transient beauty.
Emotional Impact: How effectively the photograph conveys a sense of the ephemeral and engages the viewer’s emotions.
Composition: The arrangement of elements within the frame and their contribution to conveying the theme.
Technical Excellence: Skillful use of photography techniques, including lighting, focus, and depth of field.
Narrative and Interpretation: The story and interpretation behind the photograph emphasise the theme.
Rules:
Participants must be current IOP students and may submit only one entry each.
Entries must be submitted by posting a link to your photograph in the comments section on the course platform.
While new photos are encouraged, participants may submit images taken within the past year.
To enter, share your photograph on Instagram or Twitter using the hashtag #IOPCOMP or in the comments section on the course platform. In the caption, briefly describe the story behind your photograph and how it encapsulates the essence of nature’s transience.
The winner will receive a prize of £50 Amazon Vouchers.
The competition will be open for submissions from August 1st, 2023, and the entry deadline is August 31st, 2023.
Winners will be announced on our official website and social media platforms in the first week of September 2023.

By participating, you grant us the right to showcase your submitted photographs on our website and social media platforms with proper attribution, aiming to celebrate and share your work with the photography community.
Submissions must be original work, and participants must ensure they have the rights and permissions. Any infringement on copyrights or intellectual property rights will result in disqualification.
The competition is open to students of all ages and levels of photography proficiency.
The decision of the judges will be final and binding.
