Vincent Tiller

I am originally from Portsmouth but have been living in Maidstone since 2003. I got into photography around 1978, due to working as a sales assistant in a local camera shop. This gave me a love of cameras and photography, which I still have today. My first camera was a Praktica LB, build like a tank and completely manual, but a great camera to learn on.

I moved from film to digital in 2007, and have fully embraced the digital world, but also still enjoy shooting film. Today I use Fuji cameras but have used a range of different cameras in the past. I believe that a good eye is more important than a good camera, and that the best camera is the one you have at the time.

While I like a range of photography styles, my main interest is Street Photography and I mainly shoot in Black and White and normally carry a camera with me most of the time.

I was lucky enough to have a photograph in an exhibition about Gillingham Riverside Park in Kent, and also had a photography exhibition in Portsmouth around the theme of the seaside, and even managed to sell some photographs. I was pleased to be short-listed in two art competitions in Maidstone.

Recently I had to give up working due to a medical condition, and photography has played a part in my recovery. I was looking for something to give me to focus on during my period of recovery, so in August 2021, I started the course Professional Diploma in Photography with the Institute of Photography, and I have just submitted my final assessment.

What I liked about the course was the ability to work at my own place, and I enjoyed the general course, but I found the modules around flash photography and photoshop very useful, as these helped me develop my skills in these areas.

Has my main photography interest is Street Photography, I also started the Diploma in Street Photography in November 2021 and working towards submitting my final assessment in the near future. What I also like about the courses is the interaction with other people on the course, either through the chat page or the institute of photography camera club Facebook page.

My other interests are reading, music, and walking, which I combined with my photography and can be seen around Maidstone most days with my camera.

I share my photography on Facebook and also my photographs can be seen on Flickr vincent | Flickr and Instagram Vincent Tiller (@vincenttiller) • Instagram photos and videos
