We know it can be confusing when it comes to choosing an online photography course, so we thought it might be useful to tell you some more about the Diploma in Photography from the Institute of Photography – the original photography course available online.
What do I get?
We are experts in taking a difficult subject, like photography, and breaking it down into easy to manage, bite-sized chunks that make learning more exciting. The Diploma in Photography has 61 modules, each one in a learning category of either READ, WATCH, PRACTISE or INTERACT. That way, you can learn photography online, whatever your learning style.
Tutors are on hand to help and advise as you try to make sense of the more technical sections or even if you just want to chat about photography. A tutor is online for two hours every week between 7-8pm on Tuesday and 7-8pm on Wednesday, so if you have a burning question, you can ask them live and get an answer straight away.
Tutor support is also available in our IOP Camera Club forums. You can post the results of your assignment and get tutor feedback on your photos to help you improve quickly.
How does it work?
When you join the course, you will receive a login to the course platform. You can access that course platform anywhere that you can receive an internet connection so the course is convenient and easy to follow, no matter where you are.
So, what is the first section like?
Firstly, we ask you to look through an in-depth unit which is an introduction to digital photography. Once you have completed that, we set a practise assignment and you can share this with a tutor on our forums. After that, there is a video to watch which covers important camera functions. Then, it’s on to the tests – there are 2 tests in the first section – one on lenses and another, more general test. Don’t worry, the answers to all the test questions are all covered in the previous course material – we won’t ask you anything that hasn’t been covered.
Finish all that and a new section will appear for you to complete.
