A big thanks to all those who attended our street photography workshop on the 14th May.
The sun was shining and the class had ample opportunities for some great street shots.
The quality of submissions for this workshop were high and we received some very interesting shots, which had been clearly thought out which was fantastic.
Here are the winners and commendable mentions:
Winner: David Gooderham
We love this shot, it’s so meta! David obviously waited around, saw his chance and captured a photo of someone taking a photo of the Changing of the Guard. This is the essence of street photography; thinking about what you want to achieve in your shot, positioning yourself and waiting. This eventually took the winning shot because the composition in the iPhone photo is also good. It is clear what she is photographing. Very clever David.
Commendable Mention: Ann Jacobs
Who said that street photography has to always be of the street? Photo opportunities can be found in many places if you keep your eyes open and Ann has captured this melancholy moment really well. It’s exciting when you see a photo opportunity right in front of you but you usually have to be quick to get the right composition. By keeping her eyes open and thinking about the opportunities all around, Ann has found a special composition that creates a real mood. Well done!
Commendable Mention: Vaughan Tansley
The big city can be a daunting and frightening place. Vaughan has captured a feeling in this silhouette shot, where the city appears to fracture around the subjects. The people are thrown into shadow, almost swallowed by the city which is the dominant force in this image. We really like this, it was so close to being the winning shot. Congratulations Vaughan.
Well done to everyone again and we can’t wait to see more street shots from our talented students.
