I was born in a family with a keen interest in art and this contributed to my admiration for photography. Taking after my father who had his own darkroom, I grew up to appreciate the techniques of fine art and photography. I started experimenting way back in my early teens with a Pentax film-roll body mounted with a 50mm prime lens to gain control at a closer range.
My urge to learn new skills and techniques kept on growing and I started taking the art of photography more seriously. Throughout the years I received extensive training in photography with various qualifications namely a Professional Diploma in Photography from the Institute of Photography (IOP) based in the UK obtaining a Distinction grade, which paved my way through to become the first Maltese citizen to feature in the coveted IOP Distinctions Gallery, where only 2 percent of students enrolling in this course manage to acquire. I also hold an AFIAP (Artist FIAP Distinction) from the Federation of International Photographic Art (France) as well as a 2-star exhibitor certification in the Colour Class from the Photographic Society of America.
Throughout these years, I continued to widen my experience by competing in International Competitions both locally and abroad. From these competitions and international exhibitions of photography, I have secured a number of local and international coveted awards such as a winning placement in the prestigious International Photography Awards in 2018, an achievement which had earned me an invitation to the famous Lucie Awards Gala in New York City, together with various honourable mentions from different editions of the popular Black & White Spider awards. Adding to this I have also won various FIAP medal awards with my winning collection being completed with the three different medals offered by FIAP being Gold, Silver amongst other awards. My works have been exhibited in various countries worldwide namely Bosnia Herzegovina, Egypt, Germany, Greece, Hungary, India, Macedonia, Malta, Montenegro, Norway, Scotland, Serbia, Slovakia, Sweden, United Kingdom and the USA.
I am currently a registered freelance DOI press photographer and an active member of the Malta Photographic Society since 2010, where I am one of the tutors of the Society mainly lecturing two modules relating to ‘Composing Your Photograph’ and ‘Introduction To Photo Editing’ within the Society’s Starting Photography Course intended for Beginners as well as the Society’s Beginners to Intermediate Course in Photo Editing. I am also a tutor of Photography and Photo Editing in another private training institution based in Malta.
I use photography to express myself in different ways and moods and consider myself to be a people’s person who loves to socialize and build new friendships. I always strive to give my works a particular artistic expression that seeks creative detail. This is a distinguishing quality that I inherited from my father and is probably why I chose People and Commercial Product photography to be amongst my preferred themes.
