Workshop date: 16th April 2016
Genre: Street Photography
Tutor: Stewart Weir
Thanks for everyone who attended the IOP® photography workshop on the 16th April 2016.
There were some real challenges on the day and all the students did an admirable job, keeping their spirits up during some heavy rain and a busy protest.
Despite the mitigating circumstances, the students delivered some superb shots and we had trouble choosing an outright winner.
In the end, this shot from Jackie Strange clinched the win. It encapsulates the premise of street photography which can be hard to grasp – that is the capturing of a moment in time. This moment can never be repeated in exactly the same way and it invokes a feeling in the viewer as the small boy is dwarfed by a spectre-like bubble that seems to be coming to engulf him. Well done on a great capture Jackie.

Alexander Willison for this characterful portrait that we think would also work well in black & white:
