Photography Assignments

When you take an IOP® course, you will usually complete some marked assignments. How do these assignments work? What is expected of an IOP Student when submitting assignments?

Why do we include marked assignments?

There are many so-called courses on the market that consist of the student watching some videos. While these have some merit, by putting learning into practice and having your work analysed by professionals, the skills are more likely to sink in and stay with you longer.

Learning system:

Our two flagship courses have the highest number of marked assignments:

Diploma in Photography – 11 assignments

Advanced Diploma in Photography – 16 assignments

Our other courses have marked assignments too.

We use a state of the art learning management system called Moodle. These are online courses in the true sense of the word. Everything is backed up and looked after for you. We keep track of your grades and assignments as well as letting you know if you have unlocked any achievements. It’s all saved on your course platform, easily accessible from your dashboard.

How do the assignments work?

Here’s an example…

Assignment 5 is a Composition Assignment. At the moment, it’s an assignment on the Rule of Thirds (but we often change the assignments depending on how the Course develops). In the Course Platform, click on Assignment 5, and it will give you a full breakdown of the assignment brief and any rules you need to follow.

Next, go and do the assignment with the brief in mind.

Have you got your photos and are you ready to submit them?

OK, now you need to upload them to a photo sharing site like Flickr or Dropbox. Don’t worry; we have a video that tells you how to do this if you don’t know.

Go back to Assignment 5, and it’s really easy to see where to paste the link to your photo/s so the Tutor can see them and give you some feedback. You might want to add some notes here, but they aren’t usually compulsory.

Click the Submit button, and your assignment is in the queue for your Tutor to mark.

As soon as your Tutor has marked your assignment, you’ll get an email letting you know that your feedback is ready. Just log back in, and it will be waiting for you on the Course Platform.

Everything is so intuitive and simple, even those without much computer experience can work with our learning system.
