Here at IOP®, we have taken the time to get some of our favourite shots framed. It can be tricky to get what you want and to understand all the options available but don’t worry; we are here to help.
We used a company called Whitewall to create our framed images. We chose them because they have many different options when creating your desired framed print.
We wanted a classic look so chose a solid wooden frame. This company and others also offer Aluminium Art Boxes, Floater Frames, Acryglas, Matte Canvas options and Fine Art Prints among others. There is no limit to the look you can achieve.
Next, we opted for Passe Partout. Passe–partout (or Passepartout) is the French term for a mat, paper or, more usually, a cardboard sheet with a cutout, which is placed under the glass in a picture frame.
To create a 3D effect, we chose a 3cm white border to show off the print.
Now it’s time to decide on a frame colour. Although the light oak frame is a classic, in this instance, it does not enhance the mono image. Choice of a frame is crucial to the success of your framed print.
A black oak frame gives greater contrast and brings out the gradient in the image.
Finally, we were given myriad choices of paper. Here’s a great tip – if you are hanging your frame near a window or close to natural light, choose a matte paper and matte glass. The reflections will be diffused, and you are less likely to have your print obscured by light on the glass.
Depending on your usage, you can choose Gloss, Matte, Silk, Crystal, Velvet and even Metallic.
Try to frame your favourite images when budget allows. It shows off your work to its best advantage and after all, it deserves to be on a wall and not hidden in your hard drive.
