Photography Course Reviews

We ask every IOP student on one of our online photography courses to leave us reviews and feedback before they complete their course and pick up their certificate. We read every single piece of feedback and actively take steps to implement suggestions from our students. The people who take our courses are at the heart of IOP, and their opinions shape our courses.

You can also read reviews independent of our website on TrustPilot.

What did you enjoy most about the course?

Apart from the knowledge, it has given me I liked the feeling of no pressure and the time to do the course at my pace.

How has the final assignment feedback improved your photography or if you feel it has not helped you, tell us why!

I find all feedback constructive and an asset to my photography. I have started to look at my composition more than I did and the settings on my camera before I push the shutter.

What did you enjoy most about the course?

The idea of playing with light to change the view of a photo.

What do you think we could improve about the course?

I think personally that if the modules could either have video examples it would make it more interesting. Another point would be to have a narrative option rather than only reading the modules would have been better.

What did you enjoy most about the course?

That I could complete it at my own pace

What do you think we could improve about the course?

I think that the constructive feedback element of the practical assignments is really valuable and I would like to see the opportunity to re-send the photo having made the alterations so the assessor can gauge whether the student has understood and applied the feedback. I would not re-score the revised photo just appreciate feedback on it.

How has the final assignment feedback improved your photography or if you feel it has not helped you, tell us why!

The third party view is always helpful as I tend to get really involved in the photo and sometimes don’t step back and look at it again. Thanks for your help over the last couple of years.

How has the final assignment feedback improved your photography or if you feel it has not helped you, tell us why!

It was great and very helpful. Which I really most like the great follow up and careful attention to each student by given enough time to evaluate each assignment then comes back with comments and advises which helps the students improve their photography workout.

What did you enjoy most about the course?

Well organised modules. Fundamentals are introduced really well. I am from a technical/scientific background, so it was nice to see a good balance between technical aspects such as settings and how cameras function with how this affects the result. I would say that the slides explained jargon very well for less technical folk making it very accessible to a wide audience.

What do you think we could improve about the course?

More examples in the slides for things like settings/results and comparisons, the ones there were very good. The forum is an excellent idea, but assignment posts can get messy and difficult to read as the pages take a long time to load all the images people have posted.

I have enjoyed the course; perhaps I rushed my way through a bit like when I was a kid and eager to open my box of lego before I got home! I think the approach of the course and it’s organisation is very encouraging. I can still log in to revisit the slides/post on the forum to discuss photography with other members/moderators.

What did you enjoy most about the course?

I really enjoyed the assessed exercises and thought the feedback was really good, honest and constructive. Although it was online, it felt 1:1.

What do you think we could improve about the course?

I thought an email prompt once assignments have been marked would be useful. I should have checked out the forums – I can’t really comment on the benefits of those.

How has the final assignment feedback improved your photography or if you feel it has not helped you, tell us why!

The feedback has made me more aware of all aspects of my photography and forced me to pay more attention to detail before I start taking pictures. I think my photography has progressed significantly since the beginning of the course and hopefully will continue to do so! This course exceeded my expectations for an online course.
